PUHI – A Puhi home was completely destroyed by a fire late Thursday.
No injuries were reported by the couple who lived in the structure.
Shortly before 11 p.m., firefighters from the Lihue station responded to the residence in a remote area along Haiku Road.
They arrived to find the roughly 600-square-foot structure fully involved and collapsed.
The fire was under control within minutes but the crew stayed on scene for several hours to protect exposure to the surrounding area.
Fire inspectors estimate that the blaze caused roughly $100,000 in damage to the structure and its contents.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross also responded to assist the occupants.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
