Hanalei Bay closed due to shark sighting

HANALEI – Hanalei Bay was closed Thursday afternoon after a shark was spotted in the area.

A roughly 15-foot shark was sighted in a swimming area fronting Hanalei Pavilion about 4 p.m. No injuries were reported.

“Shark Sighted” and “No Swimming” signs were posted along the beach and the public is advised to stay out of the water until further notice.

Lifeguards will likely reopen the beach today if the water is deemed safe.
