Car crash causes power outage

A one-car crash on Kaapuni Road knocked out power for around 800 Eastside residents Friday night.

No injuries were reported in the accident on Kaapuni Road. According to the Kauai Police Department, a juvenile female from Kapaa was driving a gold four-door sedan south on the road when it struck and severed a utility pole, causing a power outage for residents in Kapahi and Kapaa Heights.

The driver’s family transported her to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Alcohol was not a suspected factor in the cause of the crash.

Kaapuni Road was closed from roughly 10 p.m. until midnight, while KIUC responded and stabilized the severed pole and restored power.
