Golf scramble to support nursing students

KAPAA — Kauai’s Mokihana Club 13th annual Mokihana Golf Scramble at the Kauai Lagoons Golf Club is set for April 18.

“It’s very exciting,” said Suzanne Ellis, club spokeswoman.  “We have good participation from the community because it’s all about the nurses.”

The entry fee is $115, which includes a cart and lunch. Golfers who register before April 6 are eligible for a $100 gift card.

Since the scramble’s creation in 2003, the organization has raised $112,000 for its Nursing Education Scholarship Project, with proceeds benefiting Kauai Community College nursing students.

“Many of our student nurses are returning to school from other occupations and trying to better their lives and the life of the community in general so if we can help them financially, we feel it’s an obligation,” Ellis said.
