Kauai seniors compete at Wailua Course

WAILUA — Gene Matsuda and Antolin Apalla each carded net 69 Saturday at the Kauai Seniors Golf Club Tournament, B Flight, contested at the Wailua Golf Course.

The 3-under par scores saw Matsuda and Apalla tied for the lead of the B Flight, the final results giving Matsuda the No. 1 spot with Apalla in the second spot. Another tie filled in the third and fourth berths as Bob Ahana and Owen Ota each turned in net 71 scores.

Other winners in the B Flight included Roy Taogoshi (72), Mike Prall (73), Clifford Ichimasa (73), Calvin Tsukayama (73), Sheila Davis (73), and Hawk Kawaihalau (74).

Ben Esteban beat out Steven Kaui by a stroke to take the A Flight at net 68. Kaui finished at net 69 followed by Mel Mandrigues (70), Larry Marugame (70), Gerald Castillo (71), Sonny Querubin (71), Bully Balocan (72), Michael Schwab (72), Lynn Miyamoto 972) and Nick Blonder (73).

Susan Yamamoto topped the C Flight at net 64, four strokes ahead of Eric Kaya and Gary Humprey, both golfers finishing at net 68. Following the leaders, RJ Higgins (69), Kimi Navarro (69), Aki Morikawa (70), George Koga (70), Les Hashimoto (70), Clyde Kaui (70), and Mel Fukumoto (74) filled out the leaderboard.
