Kudos to Chelsea Kea and her crew at Times Supermarket at Kukui Grove Center on taking on Malasada Tuesday! She said business was steady from 4 a.m. when they started cooking, and by 9 a.m. they had gone through five batches of dough!
Of course, Marlena Bunao was busy at the Kauai Malasada booth where she was disappointed she missed Larian Seatz of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, who left before she could ask how the malasada tasted (and how were the ones at Times?).
Pat Griffin just finished her “Lihue” book, and while talking about the book, discovered the narra tree, a hardwood from the Philippines (I thought it was a monkeypod, but look at the leaves) which is being choked out by the monkeypod trees on the lawn of the Historic County Building. Talk to Pat about some of those historic Lihue vignettes (like the Kress building).
OK, time to go check out the finals of the John A. Burns golf tournament (Lenny Rapozo and Ian Costa came out Wednesday to make sure everything was running smooth), and then, it’s off to Waimea Town Celebration.
