HANAPEPE — Waimea High School soccer split its series with Island School Wednesday at the Hanapepe Stadium.
This was the first outing for the varsity boys and Waimea chalked up a 3-1 victory behind two first-half goals.
The Menehune got their break in the 10th minute when Colby Aana-Todd put it in the back of the net after taking a pass from midfield.
The Voyagers continued to battle, but a lapse in the 14th minute saw Menehune team captain Jace Mararagan head the ball over traffic from about 20 yards out.
The Menehune upped the lead with a goal from Isaiah Duldulao, strong center for Waimea, in the second half.
The Island School boys prevented the shutout when Emmi De La Mora found the net in the second half.
Brianna Griep and Brianna Binder did the scoring honors for the Voyager women, who took a 2-0 win over the Menehune in the nightcap.
