Man’s arm severed in collision

HANALEI — A driver lost his arm in a Hanalei collision Friday night and was flown to Oahu for further treatment.

The man had been driving a Nissan Altima on Kuhio Highway in Hanalei at approximately 6:20 p.m., according to a news release from the Kauai Police Department. He was traveling south with his arm out of the window when he crossed the centerline and sideswiped a northbound vehicle, severing his arm.

The man continued heading south and stopped at the Hanalei police substation. He was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to Oahu.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision also stopped at the police substation, according to the release. He was not injured in the incident.
