Christmas Fund helps provide essential needs
For Roger, an iPad is his communication link to the world.
The 20-year-old man with autistic and bipolar disorders and severe intellectual disability uses an iPad to communicate his needs and wants at school.
He recently obtained his own iPad but needs financial assistance to purchase the assisting applications to increase his communication skills. Roger has come a long way with his behavior and communication using the device. However, he will be aging out of school and will not be able to take the iPad with him as it is school property. Without the proper application, which he is familiar with, Roger will have difficulty communicating his needs and wants. It will have a big impact on his behavior.
He and his family would appreciate any assistance solving their problem this holiday season.
Henry is a young man with autism and ADHD. He moved to Kauai a couple of years ago from Maui to live with his grandfather, John. Henry has been very happy with the move.
John is employed as a caretaker of property on the North Shore in exchange for living on the property. However, John only receives minimal money in addition to his free rent. Thus, John and Henry could use both food and clothing this Christmas. In addition, Henry has become very enthusiastic about gardening and landscaping. It helps him to feel better when emotional problems arise. He would love some gardening and landscaping tools for the holiday.
These are some of the people who would benefit from The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island is sharing stories of families facing challenges who could use a little holiday cheer. Donations to the fund will be distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at appropriate businesses to help make their wishes come true. Each donated dollar is carefully recorded, accounted for and spent wisely. Volunteers make this program a reality. There are no paid administrators. Donations go to help individuals and families.
Only monetary donations can be accepted. Checks, payable to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI 96766.
