LIHUE — Contractors working on the new Hokulei Village shopping center anticipate completing construction on the roundabout at the intersection of Nuhou Street and Kaneka Street by mid-January. Motorists will experience intermittent delays and closures of various portions of the intersection.
The remaining phases of the project include: completion of one median on Kaneka Street and two medians on Nuhou Street leading up to the roundabout, repaving of both streets leading up to and through the roundabout, and final construction on the center portion of the roundabout.
On Monday and Tuesday workers will be installing temporary fencing, so that the roundabout lanes can be opened to through traffic on Wednesday. No road closures are expected this week; however, motorists might experience intermittent delays.
Beginning the week of Dec. 15, construction on the medians will necessitate road closures. Closures will be timed so as not to impede student drop off and pickup times at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School prior to the school holiday break.
