The long drive was full of surprises as Waipa Foundation hosts the Kala Festival today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it was nice talking story with Mina Morita who was picking up stuff from Foodland to make jook.
Despite the long detour, made it back in time to see Sara Miura (Pacita Hyde came out of the crowd to help) ringing bell at the Salvation Army Red Kettle, the tinkling making a perfect accompaniment to the choral and dance presentations. Lt. Austin Anderson can really belt those holiday carols (ask him the story about Rudolph).
If you need something to wrap up the weekend, check out the Aha Mele concert series with Alan Van Zee leading a group of musicians to help reconstruct the pipe organ at the All Saints’ Episcopal Church and Preschool. It starts at 4 p.m.
