Tropical Storm Warning issued for coastal waters

LIHUE – The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the Kauai Channel and Leeward Kauai coastal waters effective 11 a.m. today.

Due to the hazardous ocean conditions, the Ocean Safety Bureau has closed three county beaches including Kealia, Lydgate and Poipu.

The public is advised to avoid coastal areas due the hazardous ocean conditions and the potential for storm surge.

Small craft in the warning area should remain in port and well-secured.

Boaters are advised to closely monitor VHF radio for information on port closures and other safety advisories.

The islands of Kauai and Niihau remain in a Tropical Storm Watch and a Flash Flood Watch.
