Police locate second vehicle involved in fatal crash

LIHUE – Kauai police have located the second vehicle and driver believed to be involved in the fatal traffic crash that occurred on Rice Street in Lihue Tuesday morning. Both drivers involved in the incident were arrested Friday.

Tierra Aiolupotea, 33 of Lihue, was arrested for accidents involving death or serious bodily injury and driving without license.

Derreck Agan, 48 of Lihue, was arrested for negligent homicide in the first degree.

Both individuals were booked and have since been released pending investigation.

Agan was the driver of a gray Toyota Tacoma that initially struck a female pedestrian at around 6:15 a.m. while she was walking in the marked crosswalk fronting the post office. Agan stopped his truck in the inside lane of Rice Street in an attempt to render aid to the woman, when a second vehicle, traveling in the outside lane, then struck the woman and failed to stop.

The victim, 60-year-old Paulanna Larish, died at the scene.

The second vehicle involved was later identified as a 2005 Dark Blue Mercury Mountaineer operated by Aiolupotea at the time of the crash.

An investigation continues.
