The Women Artists of Kauai will be having a preview exhibit at the YWCA Women’s Center in Lihue beginning today through Nov. 12. Artwork from each of the 13 artists participating in their third annual Open Studio Tour coming up in November will be on display. The YWCA Women’s Center is at 4410 Hardy Street in Lihue.
From 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 30, the YWCA will host a special “Meet the Artists” reception. Light pupus and beverages will be served. Artwork will be on sale with 20 percent of the proceeds to benefit the YWCA’s programs for women and families.
“While attending the grand opening of the YWCA Women’s Center earlier this year, Renae Hamilton, executive director of YWCA Kauai, extended a warm invitation for our women’s art group to show there some day,” said Marionette Taboniar, Coordinator for Women Artists of Kauai. “So naturally when I started planning the preview exhibit for our upcoming studio tour, I decided to take Renae up on the offer. It is such a good and natural fit. We are so excited about this wonderful honor and opportunity to contribute to the YWCA’s programs for women and children, and we look forward to meeting the public at our artist’s reception on Oct. 30.”
The Women Artists of Kauai who will be participating include Anna Skaradzinska, Marionette Taboniar, Patrice Pendarvis, Caylin Spear, Debbie Barklow, Helen Turner, Leslie Hagen, Jennifer Rutt, Suzy Staulz, Keani Andrade, Ibbie White Alshamma, Donia Lilly and Dawn Lundquist.
Another event coming up by the Women Artists of Kauai and partnered with ReSource for Christian Spirituality is a fine art festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. People will have the opportunity to meet and talk story with the artists. Original art and prints will be for sale with a percentage of the proceeds to benefit scholarships for ReSource offerings for the coming year, workshops and retreats.
The Open Studio Tour, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 9, is a free, self-driving tour to meet, talk story and see the Women Artists of Kauai demonstrate their artistic style. The studio tour is also a fundraiser and 20 percent of sales of art during the tour will be donated to the Zonta Club of Hanalei for their scholarship fund.
