Margaret Horwood
Margaret “Midge” Hoopii Horwood of Kalaheo, Kauai, died on September 9, 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 52. Born on August 1, 1962 in San Diego, CA, she was an Occupational Therapist and Owner of Kauai Hand Therapy.
Preceded in dead by her parents, James and Kathleen Horwood, she is survived by her husband, Alberto Hoopii Jr., step-daughter Malina Hoopii Foley of Oahu, brothers, Ted and Jim Horwood, both of California, sister, Denni Wooley of California, and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Kukuiula Harbor at 10:30 am, officiated by Mel Tehada. Casual attire is suggested.

Benjamin Motas
Benjamin Motas of Kailua, Hawaii, passed away on September 13, 2014 at home at the age of 79. Born on October 21, 1934 in Pahala, Hawaii, he was a United States Air Force veteran. Ben mentored many youths through his work at the Boys and Girls Club of Honolulu, Hawaii Juvenile Detention Home, and the University of Hawaii, at Manoa.
He is preceded in death by parents: Vicente Najarda Motas, Elena Vallejo Motas; sister: Victoria Motas, brother: Jose “Pepe” Motas; Uncles: Alejandro Vallejo and Esteban Bueno.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara Motas of Kailua; daughter: Debra Santiago of Waimea; step-children: Christine (Earnest) Vasconcellos of Kailua, Steven (Linda) Ennis of Penn Valley, CA, and Leslie Kealoha of Mililani; brother: Vicente “Shorty” (Shirley) Motas, Jr. of Aiea; sister: Maria (Merle) Grosskopf of Ewa Beach.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Timothy Richardson; Torrey Santiago; Sienna Santiago; Heidi Benson; Tanya Kanani Benson; Barbara Leimomi Ennis; Natalie Keahi (PC) Taylor; Mary Kealoha; and ten great-grandchildren: Thaddeus Santiago; Cooper Benson; Angus Benson; Kristen Kawena Ennis; Katherine Kaku-Ennis; Brenson Ennis; Tejah Taylor; Mina Mamoe; Olivia Kealoha-Zimmerman; Ezra Zimmerman; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Wilbert Cummings, Sr.
Wilbert Anthony Cummings, Sr. of Lihue, passed away on September 16, 2014 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 71. Born on March 11, 1943 in Lihue, Kauai, he was a truck driver with Nielsen Construction.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Alice Yoemans Cummings; daughter Marie Cummings-Kalani, parents, Humphries Cummings, Theresa Perreira Kido; step-dad, Kaigo Kido; brothers, Gary Cummings and John Cummings; brother-in-law, Earl Apo Sr; and sister-in-law, Barbara Keawe Cummings.
He is survived by his sons, Wilbert (Lulu) Cummings, Jr. Of Puhi, Darren (Kimberly) Cummings of Lihue, Kurt Cummings of Maui and Kalani Kai Cummings of Lihue; daughter, Leiala (Dustin Trinidad) Cummings of Hanamaulu, and step-daughters, Sheena Millare and Jocelynea Rivera; brother, Kenneth (Charlene) Cummings of Kapaa and sister, Agnes Apo of Kula, Maui; sister-in-law, Ruby Pia Cummings of Anahola; nineteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai from 9 am. Service begins at 11am, with cremation to follow. Casual attire and flowers are welcome.
Scattering of ashes will be at a later date.

Kimiyo Takeuchi
Kimiyo Takeuchi died on September 23, 2014 at Kauai Care Center at the age of 93. She was born to Heimatsu and Kinu Mukai on August 31,1921, in Hanamaulu, Kauai. She was a homemaker.
Preceded in death by her husband, Atsuo Takeuchi, and daughter Doris (Ronald) Fujiwara.
She is survived by her three daughters, Evelyn (George) Simeon of Arlington, VA., Jean (Peter) Talaro of Gardena, CA., and Susan (Steven) Okikawa of Honolulu; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services to be held at a later date.

Tokiko del Prado
Tokiko del Prado of Kapaa, Kauai, died quietly at her home at the age of 98 on September 13, 2014. She was born on July 2, 1916, and worked for many years at the Kapaa Poi Factory.
Preceded in death by her parents, Ichinosin and Taneyo Kojima, brothers Shigeo, Takao, Noboru, and Yoshio Kojima, husband Rufino, and daughter Norma Siaw, she is survived by sisters Tomie Otani and Momoe Arakaki, brother George, sons James Pastor, Cyde and Dennis Casuga, Leslie del Prado, daughter Jean Clark, and their family members and relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at the Kapaa Seventh-day Adventist church, with burial at 10 AM on Monday, October 6, 2014, at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Estanislao Idica Yago
Estanislao Idica Yago of Puhi, passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on September 24, 2014, at the age of 81. He was born on May 8, 1933, in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines and retired as a drip irrigator for McBryde Sugar Plantation.
He is preceded in death by his son, Marcelino Yago; parents, Pedro and Sarquia Yago; sister-in-law, Juliana Yago; brother-in-law, Dominador Saludez.
He is survived by his spouse, Trinidad Yago of Puhi; daughter, Liz Yago (James McNichols) of Hanamaulu; three grandchildren, Tiana (Dante) Sudaria, Tyton Nunes and K’Len Nunes; four great-grandchildren, Jayden Sudaria, Cato Sudaria, Sesley Sudaria and Gianna Sudaria; brothers, Filemon (Esperanza) Yago of Puhi, Rudolpho Yago of Puhi; sisters, Eugenia (Santos) Pagat of Oahu, Matildi Saludez of the Philippines; step-brothers, Adolph Yago and Alden Yago of Oahu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 10th at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia with viewing from 8:00 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Christine Pardua
Christine Paler Pardua of Lihue passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on August 21, 2014, at the age of 73. She was born in Lihue, Kauai on September 28, 1940.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Honorata Pardua Sr.
She is survived by seven children, Angie Pardua, Frederick Pardua, Dorrick Pardua, Honorato Pardua Jr., David Pardua, Laurenilla “Laurie” Pardua, Elfrina Thuente; brother, Milton Corpuz, Clarence Corpuz; sister, Paula (Harold Rosa; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 with graveside services at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe beginning at 12:00 noon. Pot luck gathering to follow at Salt Pond Beach pavilion.

Alice Silverman
Alice Puanani (Kolo) Silverman 68, passed away peacefully on Sept. 20, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her home in Anahola, Kauai. She was born on Sept.03, 1946 in Niumalu, Kauai.
She is survived by her husband Randy Silverman, son Dennis Freitas Jr. (Aleah Oganeku), 2 daughters Maile Freitas and Melanie Freitas (Prestan Rivera). All from Anahola, Kauai. 5 Grandchildren Eli-John, Alyson, Makana, Kipukai and Kalea Freitas. 3 surviving sisters, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
The celebration of life will be held at Niumalu Canoe Club located down at Kalapaki Bay on Saturday Oct. 04, 2014 at 11:00 am with lunch to follow.

Richard Farthing
Richard Arlin Farthing of Hanamaulu, died on September 23, 2014 at home at the age of 63. Born on July 27, 1951, in Oakland, CA, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a retired cook.
Preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Arlin Farthing, he is survived by his wife, Georgianna Jerves-Farthing, son, Steven (Veronika) Farthing of Florida, step-sons, Wilfred (Donna) Jerves and Gregory (Wailynn) Jerves, both of Kapaa, daughters, Aubry (James) Crouch of Germany and Summer Shrader of Florida, step-daughter, Adrienne (Robert) Crowell of Hanamaulu, sisters, Cely (Tom) Dickerson and Mary (Merritt) Comerford, ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on October 3, 2014 at 10 am at the Hanamaulu Beach Park, with scattering of ashes to follow.
