Reservations for the Kimono Kitsuke for children, including 3- or 7-years-old girls, or 5-years-old boys, are being accepted for the Oct. 4 event.
The kimono kitsuke, based on the shichi-go-san tradition, is a traditional Japanese rite of passage and festival day in Japan that celebrates the growth and well-being of children into middle childhood.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Kimono kitsuke photos will be done during the Matsuri, hosted by the Kauai Japanese Cultural Society, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
Kimono kitsuke photos are for $50 per dressing. Extra photos are an additional $20 each.
During previous festivals, a featured performance from Japan has been available along with artisans including origami, oshie, and other crafts.
