LIHUE — More than 140 motorcycle and classic car enthusiasts took part in the “Ride with Pride” cruise on Sunday benefiting the Kauai Special Olympics program.
“Today is a beautiful day for a cruise,” said Harvey Maeda of the Kauai Classic Cars. “When I got the message, I called a few of the members who brought their cars to the event. There is no rain so there’s no excuse.”
The group started and finished at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall. In between, they visited different locations. Sunny skies made for a great day.
“It was incredible,” said Pat Coon, a Kauai Special Olympic mother.
William Burrell, a longtime Kauai Special Olympics athlete, said he was one of the first to arrive.
“I did all the tables,” Burrell said. “When the motorcycle riders come back, they need some place to eat. I even did the tables for the registration and the silent auction.”
There are about 120 registered Kauai Special Olympic athletes.
