OZone takes 2nd Wells race

Bonjolea II may have been first over the finish line, but the PHRF correction put the Sydney 36 into fourth place Thursday during the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Gene Wells Memorial Series, Race No. 2 of seven.

Skippered by Bonnie Tiffany behind the wheel, Bonjolea II crossed the line on a one hour, 18 minutes and one second elapsed sale over the 4.51-mile, three-leg course.

The finish was just 22 seconds ahead of Ozone, who slipped across the line at 1:18:23 elapsed sail under light wind in the 7 to 10-knot range out of the East Northeast.

Bonjolea II corrected to 1:23:08 PHRF for fourth place while Ozone corrected to 1:18:30 PHRF for top honors in the class. But all was not lost as Bonjolea II corrected to 1:19:51 Club for top honors in that class.

Following the two leaders, Fast Company with the Jim Saylor crew, filled in the third spot at 1:19:37 elapsed sail, correcting to 1:18:03 PHRF for second place.

Papaau, an Express 27, finished fourth on a 1:24:39 elapsed sail but corrected to 1:21:02 PHRF for third place in the class.

Other craft in the eight-boat flotilla included Weatherly crossing at 1:30:03 elapsed sail and correcting to 1:30:10 PHRF, Speedy (1:43:02 elapsed, 1:43:12 PHRF) and Trinity (1:32:20 elapsed, 1:45:06 PHRF).
