Dance the night away

The public is invited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Kauai Ballroom Dance Club at a gala Oct. 11 at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club.

The event will be recognizing its volunteers who provide year-round service to anyone who is interested in ballroom dancing.

Alton Miyamoto of the Kauai Ballroom Dance Club said in addition for the opportunity to dance the night away, there will be special exhibition routines by members of the Kauai Ballroom Dance Club’s two chapters — Lihue Chapter, and Hanapepe Chapter — as well as our friends from Oahu, Dance Magic 808.

A limited number of tickets are available at $65 per person and includes a meal prepared by the Kauai Marriott.

Kauai Ballroom Dance Club is sponsored by the County of Kauai, Department of Parks and Recreation to provide recreational and social dancing for fun, relaxation and exercise at its chapters in Lihue and Hanapepe.

Ballroom dancing creates new friendships and offers an opportunity to demonstrate that dance is achievable and enjoyable.

“Besides being fun, dancing has many health benefits such as flexibility, strength, endurance and a sense of well-being,” Miyamoto said. “Studies suggest that dancing reduces stress, reduces chance of dementia, improves the conditioning of our cardio vascular system, and improves bone and joint health.”

Tickets for the gala are available by calling 335-5823, 335-3554, or 212-9392.
