Man dislocates hip on Kalalau

LIHUE — A 63-year-old man who dislocated his hip on the Kalalau Trail was rescued on Monday.

Boaters off Kalalau Beach spotted a distressed male and notified the U.S. Coast Guard. A call was relayed to Kauai Fire Department about 1:15 p.m., according to statements from county spokeswoman Sarah Blane.

KFD Rescue 3, aboard Air 1, was on scene at the Kalalau Beach landing zone by 2 p.m. The victim was roughly 300 yards from the landing zone and was loaded and carried back to the helicopter.

After being flown to the Princeville Airport, medics transported him to Wilcox Memorial Hospital. His condition was not released, according to Blane.
