LIHUE — Akala Aiwohi and Val Rita were recognized as Volunteers of the Year as the Kauai Pop Warner Football League opened its season Saturday during the Pop Warner Jamboree.
Teddy Arroyo, the KPWFL commissioner, said the jamboree marks the start of the Pop Warner season for Kauai.
“This year, we have two new divisions – the Peewee and the Unlimited,” Arroyo said. “The Peewee returns to the gridiron from before, and the Unlimited is a new class without the restrictions which prevented some of the players from participating.”
Pam Arroyo, the president of KPWFL, said there are more than 400 youth participating in both the cheer and tackle football programs for this year.
Regular season games start at 8 a.m. Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
