Happy Camper for Aug. 11, 2014

Devin Pritchard of Portland, Oregon, was fielding calls from her concerned parents Saturday as she joined her roommate Chelsea Chock and sister Megan and mom Pam in assisting at the Red Cross shelter set up at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.

Sara Miura, a Salvation Army board member, joined the group as they prepared to serve a meal for the initial 25 people who showed up as the remnants of Tropical Storm Iselle started to dump rain.

Michele Molineaux-Faraldo was the Red Cross volunteer in charge along with Mike Johnson and Nannette Keao, who said they were going to be relieved by another corps of volunteers at midnight.

Kudos to Michelle Panoke, Wes Perreira, and Faith Harding of the Hawaii Food Bank, Kauai Branch who got a break between storm preparations to celebrate 1 million pounds of food distributed during the fiscal year 2014.

Hopefully, everyone got to vote on Saturday.
