Peter Soares
Peter A. Soares of Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii, passed away on July 19, 2014 at the age of 61. Born on January 20, 1953 in Lihue, Kauai. He retired from the County of Kauai Parks and Recreation and previously employed by Lihue Plantation.
Preceded in death by his father, Manuel Soares Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Namnama “Nama” Soares, Kapaa; son, Robert Soares, Kapaa; daughter, Crystal Soares, Kapaa; mother, Alma Soares; sister, Veronica Colobong, Hanamaulu; brother, Manuel (Arnette) Soares, Kapaa. Numerous Aunties, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday August 9, 2014 at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary. Visitation at 9:00 am, Service 10:30 am. Burial to follow at Lihue Cemetery.

Richard Kimura
Richard Motoi Kimura of Lihue, passed away on July 26, 2014 at Regency at Puakea at the age 88. Born on February 25, 1926 in Waimea, Kauai, he was an Accountant with Kauai Electric Co.
Preceded in death by his brother, Chimata (Harriet) Kimura of Waimea; and sisters, Yasuko (Takeo) Sugawara and Margaret (Jay) Downie, both of Waimea.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet Iwamoto Kimura; daughters, Pamela (Herbert) Hirota of Aiea, HI and Michelle (Placido) Valenciano of Lihue, Kauai; three grandchildren, Allison Hirota of Seattle, WA, Stephen Valenciano of Lihue, Kauai, and Ryan Valenciano of Lihue.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Lihue Christian Church, with visitation at 10:00 am followed by service at 11:00 am. Family suggests casual attire and requests no flowers.

King Anness
King Anness 65, Rochester, Indiana, passed away Wednesday July 30, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on September 6, 1948 in Peru, Indiana, the son of Kenneth F. and Mildred “Millie” (Bahney) Anness. He was a 1966 graduate of Rochester High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University.
He grew up on Lake Manitou in Rochester, Indiana, enjoying all the water sports, especially water skiing. His passion for water sports led him to spend the majority of his life living in Hawaii where he was Recreational Director for Club Med. At Club Med, he was in charge of the resorts water sports, including water skiing, surfing and windsurfing. While working for Club Med, he traveled all over the world, working in resorts from Morocco, Malaysia, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bora Bora, Tahiti, and Islands off of Brazil, often more than six months at a time. He became fluent in five different languages while working for Club Med. While living in Hawaii he became a Coast Guard Approved Sea Captain, piloting excursion boats for tourist off the Hawaii shores. He loved living in tropical locations, especially Hawaii, pursuing his passion for surfing, water skiing, and windsurfing. He retired and returned to Rochester, Indiana, a few years ago to be near his mother and had attended the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Mildred “Millie” Anness, Rochester, Indiana, close friend, Illana Herzig Weintraub, Rochester, Indiana, and many friends locally and worldwide.

Kenneth Yasutake
Kenneth K. Yasutake of Hanapepe passed away on July 27, 2014 at home at age 74. Born on August 13, 1939 in Wailua, Kauai, he was an Electronic Technician with AT&T.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia K. Yasutake, son Jon (Jeanne) Yasutake of Honolulu, daughter Jaime (Bob) Yasutake of Hanapepe, brothers, Leslie (Carol) Yasutake of Wailiua and Donald (Annette) Yasutake of Honolulu, sister, Elaine (Roy) Morita of Kapaa, two grandchildren, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 16, 2014 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai, with visitation at 2:00 pm and service at 3:00 pm. Casual attire. No flowers.

Celestina Valdez Caoagdan of Kekaha passed away on July 29, 2014 at home at age 85. Born on May 10, 1929 in Paniqui, Tarlac, Philippines, she worked at Syngenta.
She is preceded in death by her father Damaso Valdez, mother Angela Palasigue Valdez, brothers, Gregorio Valdez, Feliciano Valdez, Esteban Valdez, and Irineo Valdez, sisters, Feliza Valdez Villoria and Lorenza Valdez Domingo, daughter Gloria Caoagdan, and son Marino Caoagdan.
She is survived by her husband, Enrikue Caoagdan; sons, Romulo (Carmelita) Caoagdan of Kauai, Conrad (Leonora) Caoagdan of Oahu, Rey (Edna) Caoagdan of Kauai, and Mandy (Catalina) Caoagdan of Kauai; daughters, Elena (Guido) Domingo of Kauai, Amy (Ivol) Sexton of Virginia Beach, Virginia (Robert) Palencia of Kauai, and Jonalyn Lancaster of California; brother, Juan (Lolita) Valdez of Philippines; twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha from 8am to 10am. Mass will be celebrated at 10am, followed by burial at Kekaha Public Cemetery. Casual attire.

Joseph “Joe” M. Blackstad of Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii, passed away on July 25, 2014 at the age of 84. Born on June 15, 1930 in Waimea, Kauai. He was a heavy equipment operator & mechanic and he was in the United States Marine Corps.
Preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Ruiz Blackstad; parents, Axel & Hattie Blackstad.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Blackstad, Waimea; daughter, Joelyn (Michael) Major, Washington; son, Joedy (Ana) Blackstad, Washington; sister, Florence “Tootsie” Kajiwara, Waimea; brothers, Stanley (Lois “Mickey”) Blackstad, Honolulu, Robert “Bobby” Blackstad, Missouri, 14 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews, cousins, and friends.
