LIHUE — Friday is the deadline to apply for the 17th annual Kmart Shoreline Fishing Tournament.
Application forms are available at the store located at 4303 Nawiliwili Road.
Entry fee is $30, and $5 for young anglers 17 years and under. Children entering adult categories must pay the $30 fee.
Fishing starts after 12 p.m. Friday and must be completed by the weigh-in time from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday in front of the store. Fishing is confined from the shoreline of Kauai, only accessible by foot from Nawiliwili Bay to Kipu Kai. The Na Pali coast, Kee Beach to Hanakapiai is excluded from the fishing area.
Qualifying fish weights include a minimum of 10 pounds for ulua, a minimum of two pounds through 9.99 pounds for papio, saltwater fish with a minimum of two pounds to 4.99 pounds, and a minimum of five pounds and more. There are two categories for Saltwater – Saltwater Under 5 pounds, and Saltwater Over 5 pounds.
Anglers are allowed to enter one fish per category and place once in a category.
Tie breakers will be determined by the time fish are weighed in.
