Fireworks suspected in Kekaha brushfire

KEKAHA – A small brushfire at the Kekaha Small Boat Harbor Saturday afternoon may have been caused by fireworks, the Kauai Police Department stated in a release.

Two units from the Waimea fire station responded to the 4:49 p.m. alarm and were on scene within minutes.

No one was in the area when they arrived.

The fire was extinguished by 5:17 p.m.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.

In light of the Kekaha brushfire, fire officials are urging residents to follow all laws regarding the use of fireworks.

“In Hawaii, consumers are only allowed to use fireworks during designated hours on the Fourth of July and on New Year’s Day,” said Battalion Chief Albert Kauai.
