WAILUA – The fire that broke out at Coco Palms Resort before noon on Independence Day was deemed fully extinguished at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Engine 2 was on scene for several hours Sunday, assisting a fire investigator with gathering information and working alongside an excavator.
The heavy equipment was used to tear down the remaining building that was burned and move the rubble around to allow the firefighters to soak the exposed areas with foam.
An estimate of the damages that resulted from the fire has not yet been determined.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to a preliminary report, the main lobby and adjoining offices of the resort were completely destroyed and the breezeway of a connecting building was badly burned.
