A newly formed community women’s basketball league will begin its inaugural season July 6.
The women’s division of the Kauai Basketball Referee Association 18-and-over League will hold its games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center at 5 p.m. that Sunday. The season will run through late August.
KBRA president Sean Spriggs said the league currently has five teams in place and hopes to add up to three more, depending on how many players sign up.
“This is my first one. I just want to see what’s out there,” Spriggs said. “If it grows, then I’ll want to do something every three months.”
He added the league initially started with only two teams. It then expanded with interest grew.
“Recently it just caught fire … I guess the word got out. Things got bigger,” Spriggs said.
Entry fee is $500 for every team. The team that wins the championship at the end of the season will win its $500 back, Spriggs said.
To join, call Spriggs at 651-9105 or email at kbraofficials@gmail.com. Deadline is Saturday, July 5.
The league is co-sponsored by KBRA and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
