A 40-year-old Honolulu man injured his left leg and shoulder following a fall off the Kalihiwai Bridge Saturday morning.
The man had been jogging on the makai, or oceanside, of the bridge at approximately 2:45 a.m. when he fell approximately 40 feet and clung onto a tree on the side of the cliff.
Firefighters from the Hanalei fire station responded to the situation and rescued the victim with the help of police officers and Medic 22, which also responded to the call. Kuhio Highway was closed from 3 to 4:25 a.m. to allow rescuers to complete the operation.
The injured man was transported to the G.N. Wilcox Memorial Hospital for additional treatment.
