Bulldogs shut down Pride

LIHUE — The Kauai Bulldogs’ Boogie Yam threw for two touchdowns and Brycenson Abigania broke out for a score in the Bulldogs’ 22-6 win over the Westside Pride Sunday at Vidinha Stadium.

The Westside Pride closed off its Kauai Youth Football spring season for Intermediate players, or players in sixth through eighth grades, with a strong showing of supporters who cheered the team on in the hot, muggy conditions.

Fueled by a long run from Noah Tangalin, Yam capped the first scoring drive with two seconds in the half by hitting Austin Maghanoy on a 23-yard pass in the end zone.

The Bulldog’s Tryston Refamonte picked up a loose football in the second half on the Bulldog 20 yard line to set up the next score. Abigania broke a 65-yard touchdown, making it 16-0 with 7:25 remaining in the third quarter.

Westside got on the board when quarterback Lacin Montemayor found Ransen Pasion on an 80-yard aerial strike for a 16-6 score.

The Bulldogs put away the game in the final quarter when Fritz Conte intercepted a Westside pass to set up the final score which came on a Yam to Keon Orlando 7-yard scoring pass.

KYF hosts its final Intermediate spring game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Vidinha Stadium when the Kauai Bulldogs take on the Kapaa Warriors.
