LIHUE — National Tropical Botanical Garden is one of 20 nominees for USA Today’s Best Public Gardens.
And its up to the public to vote NTBG into the No. 1 spot.
Andy Jasper, director of NTBG’s Southshore Gardens, said the staff at NTBG are delighted to be in the running for the national recognition.
“We want to be ‘best public garden’ for Kauai residents and visitors alike,” he said. “This is an amazing time for NTBG. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we invite everyone to come to the gardens, see our art exhibition, experience our upcoming concert, take a course, attend a talk. There is still more to come.”
The public has until noon March 31 to vote daily for its favorite nominee, which were all selected by renowned expert, author and lecturer Cindy Brockway.
“Entrusted to protect the world’s tropical plant diversity, the National Tropical Botanical Garden is actually spread across several gardens and preserves in Hawaii and Florida, but the most notable are the two-in-one gardens on the island of Kauai,” USA Today wrote. “The McBryde and Allerton Gardens of the National Tropical Botanical Garden display one of the biggest and best collections of native Hawaiian flora in the world.”
