People who dream of farming or expanding a garden hobby into a supplemental income are welcome to explore options to turn those dreams into reality.
The Kauai Community College Office of Continuing Education and Training, Room 106, will be the site of a free session, “Farm Dreams,” 5:30 p.m. Feb. 4.
“With the current trends of interest in personal and environmental sustainability, locally-produced food, and in cultivating a community which enjoys taking care of itself, there exists a prime opportunity to grow Hawaii’s agricultural industry by capitalizing on the recent groundswell of people interested in agriculture as a career,” said Kathryn O’Brien, KCC’s Sustainable Agriculture instructor, and coordinator of GoFarm Hawaii at KCC.
O’Brien will be a featured presenter, discussing an update of KCC’s agricultural programs and offering information on upcoming GoFarm Kauai training at the college in March and April.
Farm Dreams will include Jerry Ornellas of Jerry’s Farm, Tim O’Conner of Olana Farm, Lisa Fuller of One Song Farm and Ned Whitlock of Moloaa Organica Farm.
Steven Chiang, director of Agribusiness Incubator Program and representative of GoFarm Hawaii, will offer an overview of the GoFarm program intiative.
