LIHUE — The Planning Department has scheduled a regional workshop and two community meetings this month to provide a progress report on the Lihue Community Plan update and gather feedback from the public. The plan encompasses Hanamaulu, Puhi as well as Lihue.
The first one is tonight.
The events will be:
• Puhi community meeting – 6 to 8 tonight Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School cafeteria.
• Hanamaulu community meeting – Thursday, Jan. 23, 6 to 8 p.m., King Kaumualii Elementary School cafeteria.
• Regional workshop – Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Lihue Civic Center, Piikoi Building and breezeway.
The topics that will be covered in the workshop include compact development, connectivity and walkability and alternative strategies for the future of Lihue. In addition, the Office of Economic Development will co-host a special session at the workshop starting at 1 p.m. to share ideas about the economic revitalization of Lihue.
