Florendo Melchor Sr.
Florendo Macadaeg Melchor Sr. of Kapaa passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on January 4, 2014, at the age of 82. He was born in Laoag City, Philippines on August 28, 1931, and retired as a Research Associate with University of Hawaii Experiment Station.
He is survived by his wife, Consorcia “Connie” Melchor of Kapaa; seven children, Celia (Ferdinand) Questin of Kapaa, Josie (Tony) Aurelio of Lihue, Amy (Larry) Tamayo of Kapaa, Myrna (Douglas) Patterson of Ewa Beach, Florendo (Imelda) Melchor Jr. of Lihue, Agnes (Aristotle) Santa Cruz of Ewa Beach, Nelia (Rodel) Asuncion of Kapaa; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Kapaa with viewing from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Melchor family with arrangements.
Amby Cruz
Amby Cruz of Omao, Kauai, passed away at his home on January 1, 2014, at the age of 88. He was born on December 7, 1925, in San Ildefonso, Iloco Sur, Philippines. He was a retired Mechanic with Lihue Plantation.
Preceded in death by his wife Consuelo “Connie” (Bali) Cruz and his parents, Pedro and Emiliana (Remular) Dela Cruz; Gregorio and Juliana (Agmata) Bali, Buddy Bali, David Bali, Virginia “Virgie” Bali and Joe Hernando, Martha Raguindin, Juaning Raguindin.
He is survived by his four children, Amby Gregory Cruz; Anthony (Edelwisa) Cruz; Adela (Alex) Padasdao, Arnold (Genevieve) Cruz. Seven grandchildren, Tiffany Bernades, Bryson Bernades, Annie Padasdao, Austin Cruz, Alisa Padasdao, Andrew Cruz, A.J. Padasdao and two great-grandchildren, Kairus Pedro and Nathan Bennor, also survived by in-laws, Rosita “Rose” Baloran, Peggy Bali, Natividad “Natty” Bali, numerous uncles, aunties, cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Where mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lihue Cemetery.

Evelyn Brand
Evelyn Takeko Brand age 94, of Kapaa, Hawaii, passed away on December 16, 2013 in Honolulu. Born on October 22, 1919 in Makaweli, Kauai. She was a Food Service Manager with Kapaa High and Elementary School.
She is survived by her daughter, Faye (Howard) Yamamoto; brothers, Kiyoshi (Jeanette) Miyasato, Shigeru (Yuriko) Miyasato, Sam (Peggy) Miyasato; sister, Teruko Umetsu; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, January 20, 2014, 9 a.m at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapaa with service at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.
