Ralph and Laura Cushnie lead Cushnie Construction, which was recently announced as Contractor of the Year by the Contractors Association of Kauai.
CAK leaders pointed out the contributions Cushnie Construction has made to the association, the contruction industry and the community toward earning the award presented by Kenneth Shioi General Contractor.
The Contractor of the Year award was one of several service awards presented to member organizations of the CAK, which celebrated the end of another year during its annual membership meeting where the 2014 directors were installed at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club.
The Wayne E. Ellis Associate Member of the Year honors was presented to Service Rentals and Supplies, and the Robert H. Rask Community Service Award was presented to honorary CAK member Domingo Lutao.
Jeff Fisher, president and owner of Earthworks Pacific, accepted the Tetsuro “Rosy” Maeda Member of the Year award from Rosy’s children, Gale Domingsel and Russell Maeda. The award is named in honor of the late founder of the CAK.
Trinette Kaui of A&B Properties will lead the CAK as its 56th president, succeeding Jerry Nishek of Kauai Nursery & Landscaping — installed by Judge Gerald Matsunaga during the installation of the 2014 directors.
Travis Horka of Custom Landscaping will be the first vice president, Lanell Miyamoto of Kalei’s Steelworks will be the second vice president. Jesse Akagi of Hawaii Gas will serve as secretary, Dirk Apao of Finance Factors will be the treasurer.
Next year’s directors include James Abeshima of Shioi Construction, Tom Arnott of Jas. W. Glover, Maile Bryan of Martin A. Bryan, Inc., Laura Cushnie of Cushnie Construction, Bryan Davidson of Earthworks Pacific, Dave Hinazumi of Grove Farm Co., Curtis Law of Curtis E. Law, Inc. and Fred Pascual of the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative.
