LIHUE — AARP is holding free educational sessions to help separate rhetoric from reality of the changes in the American health care system.
“Finding Your Way Around the New Health Care Law,” is the topic of two sessions to learn more about the national health care law and Hawaii’s new health insurance marketplace. Kauai residents can find out what the law means for them and their families by attending one-hour sessions on Friday at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the Kauai County Building, Moikeha A&B, 4444 Rice Street.
“Of all the four main counties, Kauai has the largest percentage of people identified as not having insurance, and this becomes of particular importance for that group,” said Bruce Bottorff, AARP Hawaii spokesman.
Staff from Hoola Lahui Hawaii will be present to help people apply for health insurance through the Hawaii Health Connector following the meeting, or to schedule an appointment.
“It will be a particularly valuable session for residents who don’t have insurance, or are self-employed and pay for their own coverage out of pocket,” Bottorff added.
Drop ins are welcome but pre-registration is requested.
