Sofia Claver, a Rotary exchange student from the Canary Islands (she said it’s like Honolulu), was busy getting to know the island — performing Thursday with Joanne Parongao and the Waimea High School Music Department Ukulele and Hula Halau, and on Friday, joining the Rotarians at the Lights on Rice parade.

John Iwamoto and the Boy Scouts from Troop 83 have been helping with the opala since the parade started, and Friday was no exception.
