What a surprise to hear Jul3ia (it’s how she spells her name, really!) Astatkie at the Waimea town lighting. She was doing Christmas carols (complete with a nice Christmas outfit) in harmony with herself. Hats off to Missy Keyes-Saiki, Scott

Hats off to Missy Keyes-Saiki, Scott McFarland, and all the people involved in the Caring Hearts of Christmas lighting at the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital. This is the first year the hospital has done it, and hopes to make it an annual affair.
Mahalo to Charlie Iona on a great job emceeing (at first we thought it was coming from Santa who, by the way, celebrated his birthday Monday).
John Sydney Yamane of the Rotary Club of Kauai said there are more than 60 floats with more than 1,600 participants ready for the Lights on Rice parade Friday in Lihue. Larry Feinstein said the Kauai Beer Co. will be open with specials as well as the KauaiBots specials.
Elizabeth Freeman’s going to open the Festival of Lights at 6 p.m.
