Justice Quel
Justice John Pacifico Makana O Ka Malu Quel of Hanamaulu passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on September 23, 2013, at the age of 11. He was born in Honolulu on December 18, 2001, and was a student at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Johnette “Kaleo” Quel; maternal grandparents, John Billianor and Marie Tumbaga; paternal great grandparents, Joaquina Eulalio and Felicidad Quel and cousin, Anjannette Duyanen.
He is survived by his father, Jeff Quel; paternal grandparents, Clementine and Pacifico Quel of Hanamaulu; sisters, Jazelle; Jazzlyn and Jazzmine Billianor-Pinero of Oahu; brother, Jeff Andrade of California; paternal great-grandfather, Luis Quel of Hanamaulu; numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Cremation to follow.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Quel family with arrangements.
Violet Hee
Violet Charlotte Lee Hee, of Lihue passed away at her home on Oct. 4, 2013, at the age of 97. She was born on Oahu on March 25, 1916. She retired from a long career in education having taught at Hanamaulu School and Waimea High School, then serving as an educational officer at the Department of Education’s District Office in Lihue.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hong Min Hee; brothers, Dr. Alexander (Vivian) Lee and Henry (Clara) Lee and grandson, Rick L. Demaris.
She is survived by her three sons, Stephen M. (Arlene) Hee of Brush Prairie, WA; Bob A. Hee of Waimea, Kauai and Randall J. (Nancy) Hee of Kekaha, Kauai; three grandchildren, Malia (Brian Flannery) Hee of Corvallis, OR; Noelani (Jeffery) Schille of Vancouver, WA and Puanani Hee of Kekaha, Kauai; sister, Mabel Cornwell of Honolulu, Oahu; 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lihue with visitation from 8 a.m. and services celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Aloha attire.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family suggests donations be made to Catholic Charities Hawaii, Kauai Community College (UHF Kauai CC) or Delta Kappa Gamma Eta Chapter. Please memo donations “In Memory of Violet Hee”.
Frank Kaneshiro
Frank Kaneshiro of Kapaa passed away on October 5, 2013 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. He was born on August 14, 1923 in Waipouli, Kauai, he was a Retired Grader Operator with the County of Kauai.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Toshiko Kaneshiro; son Van Kaneshiro of Kapaa; daughters, Ruth (Dean) Fochios of Wisconsin and Jill (Leroy) Lagmay of Kapaa; brother, Soichi (Jackie) Kaneshiro of Kapaa; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday October 14th 2013 at Kapaa Jodo Mission at 3:00 pm. Service will begin at 4:00 pm. The family requests casual attire.

Santos Carnate
Santos Carnate of Kaumakani, Kauai passed away on October 7, 2013 at his home in Kaumakani, Kauai at the age of 84. He was born on November 1, 1929 in the Philippines. He was a retired seed Processor for Gay & Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Potenciano & Ceferina Carnate.
He is survived by his wife, Lucrecia Carnate; 2) Sons, Ruben (Lani) Carnate; Rey (Precy) Carnate; 5) Daughters, Renie (Gerry) Parayno; Sally (Reynaldo) Andres; Rowena (Abe) Sibuma; Rhoda (Fred) Soriano; Rebecca (Macky) Rodriques; Brother, Apolonio Carnate; Sister, Lorenza Carnate; 17) Grandchildren and 5) Great Grandchildren.

John Lopez, Sr.
John “Jay” D. Lopez Sr. of Keaau, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Hilo Medical Center at the age of 66. He was born on Kauai and worked as a construction worker.
He is survived by his spouse, Priscilla Lopez of Keaau; son, John D. (Tessie) Lopez Jr. of Keaau; daughters, Davelyn (Reynold) Lopez of Waimea; Leona (Randy) Lopez of Hilo; step daughter, Liana (Darren) Vegas of Kauai; brother, Michael (Kumpun) Lopez of Kauai; sister, Christine (Richard) Callejo of Kauai; 13 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services were held at the Living Waters Assembly of God Church on Friday, October 11, 2013. Donations can be sent to 4160 Hoola St, # 15I, Lihue, HI 96766.

Nellie Hiyane
Nellie Sakae Takano Hiyane of Kapaa, Kauai passed away on September 28, 2013 at Honolulu at the age of 94. She was born on January 16, 1919 of Hawaii, HI. She was a retired Public Health Nurse.
She is survived by her husband, George Hiyane; daughters, Lani (Akio) Nakazawa; Kathi (Robert) Hiyane-Brown; brother, Thomas Takano; sister, Sumiko Wilson; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at All Saints Episcopal Church, Kapaa, and Visitation at 9:15 and Service at 10:00 am. Casual attire and no flowers.

Marcia Martin
Marcia Kaleo Martin, 83, of Kekaha passed away on October 9, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. Born on February 9, 1930 in Lihue, Kauai, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Willie Martin; daughters, Cindy (Glenn) Alquiza of Hanapepe, Emmylou (Lance Parongao) Martin of Eleele, and Joni (Kent) Shigematsu of Kekaha; brothers, Eddie (Yvonne) Souza of Kalaheo, and Antone Souza of Big Island; sister Gertrude Johnsen of California; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, October 17th 2013 at St. Theresa Catholic Church from 8:00 to 10:00 am, Mass to follow.

Eva Nishimoto
Eva Atsuko Nishimoto of Lihue passed away on September 27, 2013 at Garden Island Health Care at the age of 80. Born on December 5, 1932 in Honolulu, Hawaii, she was an employee with Joni Hana and Sone’s Deli and Catering.
Preceded in death by her parents Sanzo & Mitsuko Inouye, sister Lily Kamigaki, and brother-in-law Roy Kamigaki.
She is survived by her husband Brian Kazuo Nishimoto; sons, Eric Nishimoto of Makakilo, and David Nishimoto of Hilo; daughter Karen (Mark) Joto of Lihue; two grandchildren, Travis Nishimoto and Kellie Joto; sister, Amy (David) Yasuda of Kalihi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Lihue Baptist Church.

Henry “Nane” Kealakalae Kaneakua of Kilauea formerly of Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on October 4, 2013 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 14, 1930, Kawaihau, Kauai. He was a truck driver and a roofer.
He was preceded in death by parents, James & Louise Kaneakua; wife, Odetta Miner; son, Kieth Kaneakua; daughter, Georgialyn Kaneakua; sister, Eloise Oclit.
He is survived by son, Kelvin Keoua, Lanai; Henry (Jacqueline) Miner, Oahu;

Hugh Allen Rutan of Kalaheo, Kauai passed away on September 25, 2013 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 59. He was born on February 17, 1954 in Akron Ohio. He was an owner and operator with Rutan Refrigeration, Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Rene Rutan; brother, William (Carla) Rutan of Ventura, California; nieces, Jennifer Jorgensen and Brianna Rutan; cousin, Susan McEwen of Peoria, Arizona; grand-niece, Chloe Jorgensen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jaime Garcia; daughter, Norma Montero; grandson, Eddie Camarillo, Jr.
