Man dies at ‘Tunnels’

HAENA — An 81-year-old male from Colorado Springs, Colo., who was pulled from the water at Tunnels Beach Saturday, was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital upon arrival.

The man had been snorkeling in calm waters about 20 to 40 feet from shore when he was spotted face down in the water about 11 a.m.

He was brought to shore by bystanders, who began performing CPR.

Lifeguards from the Haena tower assisted bystanders with CPR and continued treatment until Hanalei firefighters arrived.

Medic-22 transported the victim to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
