Happy Camper for Friday, August 16, 2013

Happy birthday to Wendy Leanio, who got a special gift when her son Madison was honored by Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. for winning a gold medal at the National Finals of the Hershey’s Track and Field Games.

Pat Viernes may have retired from the Department of Parks and Recreation, but could not stay away from the celebration where Mayor Carvalho invited Madison to have lunch.

Kudos to Aaron Uyeda, who took over the Hershey’s Kauai coordinator responsibility after Pat retired.

Jennifer Arruda was still working at her summer intern job. She did an amazing job coordinating the Summer Enrichment Program and said she’ll be leaving for Portland, Ore. on the 28th.

Kudos to the Mayor’s Office on the first of four community meetings. Janice Bond (she did a great job coordinating the AARP forum on Social Security Saturday) was concerned about Wi-Fi in the county facilities. She was back out shopping with AARP members at the kupuna program Thursday at the Kauai Independent Food Bank and will have a table at The Starlighters Friday at Kukui Grove.
