Police confirm Kauai’s 14th drowning

LYDGATE  – A 54-year-old male visitor from Seattle, Wash., who drowned in waters off Lydgate Beach Park last week has been identified as Hom Shu.

Shu was swimming in Morgan’s Ponds when he was located under water shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25.

Bystanders pulled him to shore and began performing CPR until Medics and Kapaa firefighters arrived to the scene. Shu was transported to Wilcox Hospital in critical condition where he was treated until his passing the next night.

Volunteers with Life’s Bridges, a grief-counseling service, and representatives from the Kauai Visitor’s Bureau assisted Shu’s family following the incident.

This is Kauai’s fourteenth drowning so far this year.
