LIHUE — A Kapaa couple was hospitalized after a collision Wednesday night in Lihue.
According to county information, emergency personnel responded to a crash at the Kuhio Highway and Rice Street junction around 8:05 p.m.
A 61-year-old Waimea man was heading south on Kuhio Highway and attempted to make a left-hand turn on Rice Street when his pickup truck collided with a northbound pickup truck at the stoplight in Lihue. The driver did not report any injuries.
Emergency personnel extricated both the 64-year-old male driver and his 57-year-old female passenger from the northbound truck. They were transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Both trucks sustained major damage and were towed from the scene. Northbound traffic was redirected onto Rice street until all lanes were reopened around 8:30 p.m.
