ANAHOLA — A 32-year-old Anahola woman remains hospitalized after a crash left her trapped in her pickup truck off Kuhio Highway in Kealia early Thursday.
The incident occurred about 3:15 a.m. when, according to police, the woman crossed the center line and struck a light pole along the southbound shoulder of Kuhio Highway near the entrance of Kealia Kai. The collision caused the vehicle to roll down into the ravine below the road.
Police were initially called to the scene due to a report of a light pole blocking the highway. When officers arrived they could hear the woman screaming for help and found her trapped in the truck roughly 50 feet into the ravine.
Firefighters and medics were called and extracted the woman from her vehicle about 5:30 a.m. She was transported to Wilcox Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Kuhio Highway was closed in both directions for roughly two hours while rescuers removed the woman and truck from the scene.
No other vehicles or passengers were involved in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
