LIHUE — The construction for Kong Radio Group’s $500,000 tower refurbishment and antenna installation is complete.
The work crew for this project came from around the state and Mainland, and worked through wind, rain and sun for six weeks to refurbish the Kong Radio Group tower and install two FM broadcast antennas.
Also installed were solid-state transmitters for KONG FM and for sister station KSHK-Shaka 103.
KSRF The SURF 95.9 also received an upgraded transmitter at the Kilohana site.
A 130-kilowatt generator complete with automatic switch system was also installed, which will provide electrical power for all of the Kong Group stations at the Kilohana site.
The technical aspects also included moving transmitter sites from Haupu Ridge to Kilohana for both
Shaka103 and The Surf 95.9.
This was done so that maintenance could be handled in one location with only one trip to one tower site location for all four stations.
SHAKA’s signal can now be found at 103.1 on the FM dial.
