LIHU‘E — The Garden Island Arts Council continued the 2013 E Kanikapila Kakou music season with a performance March 11 by the young and talented Abrigo Family Quartet.
Hailing from O‘ahu, the quartet consists of 17-year-old Timi on guitar, 14-year-old Emily on guitar, 10-year-old Quinn on ‘ukulele and their mother Lanet on bass. In 2012, the group became the youngest Na Hoku Hanohano Awards finalist for its first recorded album, “Ekahi.”
EKK is in the midst of celebrating 30 years of bringing the best Hawaiian music to Kaua‘i and features Monday performances through March. During the first hour, musicians provide instruction in what is called an “‘ukulele circle,’ followed by a two-hour interactive performance.
Additional performances for the 2013 EKK season include Leokane Pryor and CJ Helekahi with Kaliko Beamer Trapp on March 18 and an ‘Ukulele Trio featuring Aldrine Guererro, Kalei Gamiao and Taimane Gardner March 25.
Concerts are from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort, located on Kuhio Highway between the Lihu‘e Airport and the Wailua Golf Course. Donations are recommended at the door.
