LIHU‘E — An overflow audience of people concerned about the Anahola Renewable Energy Project met with the Department of Hawaiian Homes Lands commissioners and administrators on Thursday and Friday.
About 100 people took advantage of the invitation to comment on a proposed renewable energy project and its lease to the Green Energy Team, LLC, for use of more than 2,000 acres of Hawaiian Home Lands in Anahola for the purpose of fueling the Green Energy biomass-to-energy plant located near Koloa.
The first meeting was held Thursday evening at the King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School cafeteria, where Office of Hawaiian Affairs commissioner Dan Ahuna was joined by Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. to learn more about people’s concerns over the general lease to Green Energy.
The meeting overflowed to the Aston Aloha Beach Hotel in Wailua on Friday.
