LIHU‘E — Waimea’s Deannalynn Tafiti picked up the 28-2 win on the mound Wednesday against Kaua‘i High School at Isenberg Park.

Kailee Nii, Kaua‘i’s starting pitcher, suffered the loss after getting help from Malia Garcia, Tayzia Okami and Kyana Hirokane in closing the door.
Waimea pushed its 28 runs across the plate on 14 hits, including a two-run in-the-park shot in the third inning.
The defending Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation and Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II champions lost little time asseting itself, marking 11 runs on eight hits in the first frame before fans, who lined the perimeter of Isenberg field.
After going down in order in the second inning, Waimea pushed two runs on two hits in the third before exploding for 15 runs on three hits in the fourth frame.
Alyssa Miyamoto, a freshman playing third base, set the pace for Waimea, going four-for-five in the box, including a two-run in-the-park homer, a pair of doubles and a single while scoring three times. She finished with seven runs batted in.
Gaylan “Ulu” Matagiese, hitting a double, scored four times and had four RBIs. Bailey San Agustin-Nordmeier, playing first base, finished three-for-six with two stolen bases, scored four times and had three RBIs.
Sienna Santiago (2-6) scored four times with two RBIs along with Tafiti, two-for-six with a double and a single, scoring three times with two RBIs.
Bryana Resquer-Yorkman, getting a single in three at-bats, scored twice and marked an RBI along with Kiani Kamakea, Kelsie Shimatsu and Taylor Lazaro.
Hirokane led the Red Raider bats with a double in the third inning. Kirra Jaquias, Karlyee Malapit and Tammie Yoshimori each singled.
Kaua‘i next travels to the Kapa‘a High School facility Saturday for a double-header against the Warriors with the first pitch going at 10 a.m.
