Kapa‘a High School, securing the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation titles for both girls and boys soccer, filled the Player of the Year positions for both the girls and boys all-star teams as well as the Coach of the Year for both the girls and boys squads in the results which were announced Feb. 13 by the KIF.
The Kapa‘a girls team, losing the Outrigger Hotels and Resort Association Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association third place team to rival Kaua‘i High School, the KIF runner-up, placed nine players on the KIF all-star team, including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.
Kaua‘i, the KIF runner up, placed four players on the KIF all-stars with Waimea getting one place, Kaycee San Agustin-Nordmeier getting the nod for Utility, a position she demonstrated several times during the season when normally a defender, she was placed in the forward and sometimes midfield positions.
Kaua‘i’s Alyssa “Malu” Vegas, also getting the nod as a forward on the Division II All-Tournament team, filled in one forward position along with Kapa‘a’s Kekai “Kiki” Gonsalves and Chloe Fredericksen.
Kaua‘i’s Jannin Hashizume and Cascade Mayer filled in two of the three midfield positions, the remaining spot going to Kapa‘a’s Cassie Wilson. Mayer was also named to the Division II All-Tournament team as midfielder.
Kapa‘a’s Mia Cabulisan, also named to the Division II All-Tournament team as defender, filled in one of four positions, being joined by Taylor Foster, also named to the Division II All-Tournament team and named KIF Player of the Year.
Kapa‘a goalkeeper Madeline Rausch got the nod for that position in the KIF all-stars.
Kaua‘i’s Nicole Gardner and Kapa‘a’s Eryka Keoho rounded out the defender spots in the KIF all-stars where Kapa‘a coach Gwen Tamura was named Coach of the Year.
Kapa‘a coach Kevin Cram, piloting the Warrior boys to the state Division II crown with a 2-1 win over Mid-Pacific Institute, was named Coach of the Year for the KIF boys all-stars.
Joshua Cram, named Most Outstanding Player for the Division II All-Tournament team, was selected Player of the Year as well as filling in one of the three midfield positions for the KIF all-stars.
Joshua was joined by Kaua‘i midfielders Lucas Gushikuma and Abel Antonio Aguilar Aguirre.
Brothers Michael and Daniel Alonzo, both also named to the Division II All-Tournament team, filled in two of the KIF forward positions, being joined by Waimea’s Byron Freitas.
Kapa‘a’s T.J. West and team captain Tanner Henry, both named to the Division II All-Tournament team, filled in two of the four KIF defender spots, the remaining spots going to Kaua‘i’s Grant Basquez and Island School’s Marcus Punua, the sole Voyager to be named to the KIF all-stars.
During the season, Punua anchored the Island School defense, making a number of key stops and being a key part of the four ties recorded by the eventual state Division II champion Kapa‘a team.
Kapa‘a goalkeeper Austyne Carvalho-Toloai filled that position in the KIF all-stars with Krieg Medeiros of Waimea getting the nod for the Utility position.
