Team Lihu‘e, Hanapepe get Thursday night wins
KALAHEO — David Pascua scored 14 points to lead Team Lihu‘e to the winning end of a see saw battle against the Kamikaze Thursday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Playing in the Division 2, or boys in the fifth and sixth grade, league in the county’s youth basketball league, Pascua fired off a pair of three-balls, one in the first and one in the fifth frames, to help Team Lihu‘e clinch the 34-31 win.
Takeshi Komar, leading the Kamikaze scoring with 11 points, was key in grooming the 15-14 Kamikaze halftime lead to a 23-15 lead at the end of the fourth period.
Helping Pascua, Keane Tibon, firing all four points in the third frame, kept Team Lihu‘e in the chase. Tibon finished the game with six points.
Travis Duran joined Komar in leading the Kamikaze effort, Duran finishing with 11 points followed by Dalson Cua adding six points.
Tai Ofisa fired off a dozen points and Makoa Vanaman added six points to lead the Hanapepe Bomb Squad to a 40-25 win over the Eastside Heat in the nightcap.
Ha‘o Trugillo, firing a three-ball in the fourth frame, finished with five points with Kepa Kali, Kade Ofisa and Lacin Montemayor each adding four points.
Eli Unotoa and Mikey Cruz each netted seven points to top the Eastside scoring, Aiden Offley and La‘a Gonsalves contributing five and four points, respectively.
