LIHU‘E — Steve Hunt, the new county’s Finance Director, literally hit the ground running, Friday.
Appointed to the position by Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. on Jan. 29, Hunt took the Oath of Office, signed his Certificate for the position, and almost immediately was tasked with a meeting on the new budget.
Hunt replaces Wally Rezentes Jr. who earlier left the office following years of service as the Finance Director.
Attending the Oath of Office ceremony were Hunt’s family, members of the county’s Finance Department, Mayor Carvalho, and department heads who wished him well following the brief ceremony at the rotunda of the Mo‘ikeha Building, Lihu‘e Civic Center.
Hunt leaves his post as real property review officer to assume the Finance Director’s position.
Prior to joining the county, Hunt served as a Bank of Hawai‘i assistance vice president for private client services.
He also owned a real estate appraisal company, Island Appraisal Co., states a county release.
Raised on the South Shore, Hunt is a product of Koloa Elementary School and Kaua‘i High School, earning a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
He currently lives in Lihu‘e with his wife Lauren (LaMadrid), whom Mayor Carvalho described as “the first lady of finance,” and their two children, Conor and Mason.
Hunt serves as a volunteer for several organizations including the Island School treasurer, Po‘ipu Beach Estates Homeowner’s Association treasurer, Hawai‘i Youth Soccer Association coach and Kiahuna Futsal coach.
